You can find out more about how to become a councillor by visiting the Local Government Association website. If you would like to stand for election you will need to complete a NOMINATION FORM which you can download from the Electoral Commission website.
You can apply for a postal vote . Postal votes must be received by Shropshire Council 11 working days before polling day, Thursday 6 May 2025.

Q: I would like to apply to register to vote.
To apply to register to vote, please complete the online application at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
Q: I have moved address.
The quickest and easiest way to change your address on the electoral register is to complete a new application online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
Q: I would like to opt out of the open register.
To opt out of the open register you will need to submit your request with your full name and address, and we will update our records.
Please note you cannot make this request on behalf of another person.
Q: How do I vote?
There are three different ways that you can vote.
1. Vote in person at a polling station.
If you are registered to vote, you will receive a poll card confirming the name and address of your polling place. You cannot vote at another polling station. Polling hours are from 7am to 10pm. Residents can also look up where their polling station is located here. Find your polling station | Where Do I Vote? Following the introduction of the Elections Act 2022 approved Voter ID is now required in the polling station to obtain your ballot papers and cast your vote. 2. Vote by post
If you are unable to vote in person, you can apply for a postal vote online through the Governments portal here https://www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote
3. Vote by proxy (where someone votes on your behalf)
Proxy voting enables you to appoint someone to vote on your behalf if you are unable to go to the polling station for a particular election. You are only permitted to vote by proxy for 2 people domestically and 2 people who are registered to vote as overseas electors. Q: I would like to cancel my postal or proxy vote.
To cancel an existing postal or proxy arrangement, you must contact us in writing or you can email us here elections@shropshire.gov.uk .
Q: I would like to remove a name from my property.
To remove an individual from the electoral register at your property, please provide us with your full name and address and the full name of the person who has left, and we may update our records.
Please note as part of the removal process a Notice of Removal letter will be sent to your property for the person concerned.
Q: I have provided documentary evidence.
If your documentary evidence is sufficient, you will be added to the electoral register at the next publication. You will receive a confirmation letter soon after.
Q: I have changed my name.
To change your name, please provide us with your previous full name, current full name and address along with one of the following pieces of documentary evidence; marriage certificate, amended birth certificate or deed poll. If your documentary evidence is sufficient, your name will be changed on the electoral register at the next publication.
